More about Me
Is there something in your life that you love so much you can’t imagine ever getting sick of it? Well, that’s how I feel about photography. Being a Los Angeles Photographer is wonderful for so many reasons. It’s a creative outlet, it’s how I make my living, and it can be the ultimate act of service when you offer it to other people.
Perhaps my favorite part of being a working photographer in Los Angeles is being the unique position to reflect people’s lives back to them and show them the beauty in the everyday moments.
Here are 6 reasons I love being your Los Angeles Photographer.
How fortuitous that my creative outlet allows me to capture images of my favorite people in the world: my family.
Though since high school, I’d been one of those people with a camera hanging around their necks, there was a newfound joy for taking photos when my first child was born. Babies change so much in the first year, it was a huge benefit to already have photography in my life and be able to document it all.
When my son was born in 2021 and our photographer tested positive for COVID on the day of our session, I decided to personally take our newborn photos since we were all ready to go. Not only does it give me endless pleasure to photograph my kids, but they love seeing their photos all over our home and in albums. I can’t even begin to imagine how much more valuable these photos will becomes as they change and grow up.
As a parent, one of my favorite things is meeting other parents. I really love it. And as an at-home newborn and family photographer, I get to see how people parent. I learn so much from being around other families. The biggest takeaway is that we all face challenges. As wonderful as it is having children, it is also very hard to raise them. It makes me feel so much less alone to notice we are all in the grind together.
I read once that “parenting is only hard for good parents” and it made me feel SEEN! I know so many of us, mothers in particular, experience guilt and shame, and sometimes feel like we’re not doing a very good job. I know many parents I’ve worked with feel this way at times. But from the other side, I always see such loving mothers and fathers doing their best and raising happy and healthy children. And it’s a wonderful feeling to deliver their photos which serve as evidence that their kids are happy – that they’re doing a good job.
Maybe my favorite thing about being a Los Angeles photographer is just how versatile photography really is. I’ve personally dabbled in so many different genres, from headshots to behind-the-scenes, landscape to underwater, and newborn to family, of course. There are endless possibilities, each one with its own technical challenges and demands. This allows me to be constantly learning and growing as a photographer and artist, and testing the limits of what I can do and what I can capture with my camera.
There are so many things I would have never done if it wasn’t for photography. I’ve taken photos of waterfalls in Oregon, rock formations in Yosemite, mud tiles in Death Valley, and lighting storms in The Grand Canyon. I got to swim with humpback whales in French Polynesia on a trip with other photographers. So many experiences I would never have had if it wasn’t for my camera! It’s allowed me to see the world in the most beautiful way. Taking notice of light, colors, shapes, landscapes, people, and animals.
